RANCH STYLE
Addition/Renovation
Arlington
A young family was quickly outgrowing their modest ranch style house, but loved the neighborhood and wanted to remain there. So, we phased a home addition and renovation over a couple of summers, when they are typically overseas.
The renovation completely transformed their home, with a new wide-open main entry, and the direct connection of dining, living and kitchen areas with the sunny backyard. A master bedroom became a master suite with the addition of a large bathroom. The main entry area received a new walk-in closet and a powder room. In addition, a new open stair now directly connects it to a ground level family room and a garage through the new basement mudroom.
Flexible multifunctional spaces were created throughout. One of the rooms was directly connected to the main living space with a double door, for convenient access to a private space for work, craft and study. This room was designed to be usable as a guest room as well. A large family book collection was placed in the dining room to double as a library, with a main entry fireplace reading area nearby.
